Solar Eclipse

Total Solar Eclipse ...

On Monday, April the 8th is our first day back from spring break and we’ll be ready to receive all of our students.

On this day we will be experiencing a Solar-Eclipse between the hours of 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the height of the Solar-Eclipse occurring around 2:00 p.m.

Here at Matteson Elementary classrooms and grades will be celebrating the event in various ways. Here are just some of the activities we will be doing:

Creating sun prints
Solar eclipse chalk art project
Study of the Sun
Story: Our Very Own Star: The Sun

All students will be receiving solar-eclipse glasses on Monday. Please reinforce with your students that when they’re making their way home on Monday, whether it be via bus, car, or walking, that they’re being mindful of not looking at the solar eclipse unless they have their solar-eclipse glasses on. This should ideally happen at home with your direct supervision.
