Walk the Path for Literacy & Mathematics Friday, May 24,2019 (Click the title to learn more)

The Parent Advisory Council’s vision for the first Walk the Path for Literacy & Mathematics became reality on Friday, May 24, 2019.  The walk offered interactive educational experiences for preschool students.  Excitement filled the air as students, parents and school staff participated in various activities that focused on healthy lifestyles and cultivating a love for literacy and mathematics.  The walk took place at Richton Square School during 2 times; 9am and 1pm.  Participants participated in various stations that included water, healthy snacks and fun interactive learning activities hosted by one of our community partners, Matteson Public Library.  Each student received a pedometer which helped them with math concepts (recording steps/activity) while teaching health & wellness.  Each student also received a finisher’s medal, certificates of achievement, apple slices, water bottle, and the Caldecott Honor Book Ten, Nine, Eight by Molly Bang.

Thank you Village of Richton Park Police, Village of Richton Park Recreation, Matteson Public Library, Black Girls Run Chicago, Richton Square Parent Advisory Council Executive Board, and all of our parent volunteers that came out to support our walk.  We did not let the rain put a damper on our event.  The children still had a lot of fun.
