Our students are doing an excellent job reading and earning AR points! Here is a spotlight of each grade level's Reading Statistics for the month of February.
-
This month in the library, the students have been creating different projects to display. The students did a wonderful job and were very creative when putting together their ideas and projects!
In 4th grade, we read the story "The Pathwork Path: A Quilt Map to Freedom". Then each student choose a quilt square and designed a quilt square that would have been used on a Freedom Quilt.
In 5th grade, we read the story, "Martin's Big Words". We then discussed different words that have powerful meanings for Black History Month. We also discussed different African American individuals who we celebrate in the month of February. The students then chose different words and created a word art picture.
In 6th grade, we read the story, "I Am Every Good Thing". We then discussed how it is important to have confidence in yourself, and view yourself in a positive light. The students were then assigned a creative writing activity where they needed to write about themselves in a positive way.

Mailing Report Cards Week of March 22nd -
Sauk Elementary School would like to welcome Toya Smith as our new School Counselor. Toya comes to us with a rich background. She is mom to an eleven-year-old, son who is the apple of her eye. Additionally, she has 20 years of experience as a teacher and educator. She reports that she enjoys and loves to see children flourishing in every aspect: socially, emotionally, and academically. She received her undergraduate degree from UAPB (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) in History and her MA in Early Childhood at Governors State. Concordia University is where she earned her MA in counseling degree. We are excited have Ms. Smith at Sauk School to assist students in reaching their goals and conquering their challenges. Toya Smith welcome to the family.

We want to welcome our new nurse Tiffany Burgess to Sauk Elementary School. She is a Registered Nurse who believes in providing adequate healthcare to patients and families while simultaneously positioning herself as a healthcare advocate.
She earned her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Chamberlain University. Prior to joining the Matteson School District 162 team, Tiffany worked at Advocate Christ Hospital as a Registered Nurse on the Observation Unit. Along with her role at Advocate Christ Hospital, Tiffany also worked at Passport Health Chicago, a travel health clinic, where she was primarily responsible for assessing patients health records and administering vaccinations for international traveler’s. In her spare time Tiffany enjoys crafting, cooking, and watching a good movie.
She is so excited to be a part of the Sauk Family and the Sauk Family is very pleased to have her! Welcome to TEAM SAUK Nurse Burgess!
