Degrees and Certifications:

Ms. Meghan Michals

Greetings!  I am excited about this year, as I continue contributing to Southland's excellence in a number of ways.  I teach AP English Language and Composition, AP Literature and Composition, and English I.  I also serve as 9th Grade On Track Coordinator.  In this position, I provide freshmen with the tools and support necessary to help them transition into high school and sustain high levels of academic, social, and emotional success. Within the district, I am an instructional coach.

My educational background includes a bachelor of art in English with a focus in writing from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a masters degree in education from National Louis University, an LBS-1 special education certification from the University of St. Francis, and training in trauma-sensitive classroom strategies and restorative practices.  In addition to my background in education, I have also studied many avenues of holistic wellness, such as mindfulness, yoga, and meditation.  Specifically, I am a certified yoga instructor with a specialization in trauma-sensitive practices.
