Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Stirling Culp
I am Dr. Stirling Culp born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on July 12, 1942. I attended Hickory High School located in Hermitage, Pennsylvania where I excelled in choir, orchestra and band. During my high school years I studied at the Dana School of Music on the campus of Younstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. After graduation I joined the United States Airforce and immediately became active in the local chapel choir on base and became a regular soloist for the highest ranking chaplain in the Strategic Air Command until I was honorably discharged after four years of active duty.
I then enrolled as a full-time student at Sherwood Music School in Chicago, Illinois and was employed as the first minority teacher in Park Forest at Blackhawk Jr. High School from 1964-1970. Later, I was employed by School District 201-U as the Choral Director while earning my Master's Degree at GSU majoring in Cultural Studies.
My music interest embraced religion and that is when I enrolled in the Gospel Ministry Outreach Theological Institute where I earned a Doctor of Sacred Music and decided to assist church singers and musicians with music literacy. I have trained singers from Mozambique, Swaziland, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Burkino Faso, Mali and Senegal.
One of my greatest joys is imparting life lessons with and to our students at Southland College Prep High School.
