Mr. Robert Travis
WELCOME TO THE MATTESON MUSIC DEPARTMENT!
ABOUT MR. TRAVIS
Mr. Travis has been teaching music for 18 years, all right here at Matteson School. Originally from West Michigan (Grand Rapids area), he earned his Bachelor of Music degree, with majors in music theory and French horn performance, at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Several years later, he earned his teaching certificate at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, Michigan, and began teaching in Matteson.
While French horn is the instrument he studied in college, Mr. Travis now spends more time playing piano, along with singing and playing guitar, and some occasional composing and arranging. But as much as he loves performing, his heart is truly in bringing the musicality out of others. He feels fortunate to be part of School District 162, where the true value of music and the arts in the enrichment of the human spirit is recognized and realized.
In addition to teaching at School District 162, Mr. Travis also leads worship and multimedia at a church in Homewood, and occasionally takes on side projects involving performing or composing/arranging. He spends his spare time outside walking or biking, or focusing on learning more about health and nutrition.
GOOGLE CLASSROOM
While most music study involves students and teachers working together in real time, there are occasions where paper-and-pencil style work is necessary. For most written work, Google classroom will be utilized. Please make sure that your children keep their Chromebooks charged. All grades, however, will be posted in PowerSchool.
