Mr. Robert Travis
WELCOME TO THE 2021-2022 SCHOOL YEAR!
I am so happy that we all get to meet in person this year. It's going to be a great year full of music-making and learning, and I can't wait to get started!
For those who don't know me, I'm Mr. Travis. This is my 16th year teaching music at Matteson School, and it's also my 16th year in Illinois. I'm originally from West Michigan (specifically the Grand Rapids area), and earned my degree in music theory and (French horn) performance at Western Michigan University in 1996. I then returned to college at Grand Valley State University to get certified to teach, and began teaching in Matteson 2 years later. I'm so blessed to be part of a district that truly puts its students first and strives to give them such great opportunities to learn, experience, and do.
As for me personally, much of my life revolves around music. I'm also a worship/multimedia leader (meaning I play piano and organize people to lead singing and record the service for our live stream) at a church in Homewood. And when I'm not doing something for that, I'm still playing the piano quite often, and at times the French horn or the guitar.
When I'm not making music, I enjoy spending time with my dog, reading, learning new things in technology (focusing on both content creation and programming), and as of recently I've taken an interest in healthy cooking.
When it comes to communication, in addition to paper communication/flyers, the primary method I'll use is Google Classroom. Every homeroom class has a page for music. Please visit that page and look at the stream for important updates.
Matteson School has a longstanding choir -- in fact, this year is our 15th Anniversary! We will be putting together something special for you to enjoy. The choir is open to 2nd- and 3rd-Grade students, and information on joining will be made available to those grade levels in mid-September. Be sure to watch for written notes and/or Google Classroom streams for updated information.
Finally, we are currently getting our Winter Programs set up. This year's program will be a little more traditional than last year, but we still plan to present it virtually. As with the choir, more information will be coming on that in the first few weeks of school.
If you have any questions or comments on any of this, please contact Mr. Travis at firstname.lastname@example.org, or via the school telephone number, where my extension is 4204.
Thank you, and let's look forward to a great and musical year!
