Mr. Robert Travis
Hello, I'm Mr. Travis! This is my 13th year in District 162, and I'm excited to meet new students and their families, as well as seeing those I've already come to know.
In my classes, students will learn the basics of music literacy (that is, reading music), some common terminology, and some basics of general musical knowledge such as instrument families, well-known styles and composers, etc. There are also several performance opportunities -- some for each grade level, as well as an extra-curricular choir for 2nd and 3rd Grades, which affords several extra performance opportunities.
I'm originally from West Michigan (Grand Rapids area), and attended college at Western Michigan University and Grand Valley State University, earning a Bachelor of Music with majors in music theory, music performance, and music education.
When I'm not teaching music, I'm often making music elsewhere. I teach privately at Melody Mart in Homewood (brass instruments), and play piano for Faith Lutheran Church in Homewood. In what time is left, I enjoy hanging out with my dog, bicycling, and learning more about my hobby, computer programming.
But my first love has always been music, and I sincerely hope that I can share and spread some great musical experiences to your children and your family!
