I am thrilled that your child is in my class this year! We are going to learn so many new and exciting things together. Let me begin by sharing a little bit about me. I have been teaching for over 25 years. This is my 20th year teaching 5th grade at Indiana Elementary School, so I guess you have figured out that I really love teaching fifth grade. I think it is the best grade ever! I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Illinois State University and in 2007 a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Governor’s State University.
I am married and have two lovely children. When I am not teaching, writing lesson plans or grading papers, I enjoy reading, listening to music and watching sports, especially football and basketball. The people who inspired me to become a teacher were my parents and my high school basketball coach.
I am very passionate about teaching, but math and reading are my favorite subjects! I also enjoy making learning fun through projects, games and art. I think it is important to work together as a classroom family. The students will be spending a lot of time together, so it is important that everyone is treated with respect, kindness and compassion. I know that students think and learn differently. It is my responsibility as their teacher to help them grow as a learner and as a person with good character.
Finally, it is my belief that communication between home and school is essential to a child’s success in school. During this year, we will be working as a team to help your child have a successful year. I also believe that I have a classroom filled with S.T.A.R.S. (Students Taking Academic Responsibility Seriously). I am really looking forward to an exciting and productive school year!
