Essential Functions:
- Create and implement a districtwide safety plan utilizing current available safety audits and industry best-practices.
- Develop, plan, and execute all state required safety drills in all school buildings in collaboration with building principals. Safety drills include, but are not limited to, Tornado, Law-Enforcement Drills, Bus Evacuations, and Fire Drills.
- Work collaboratively as a liaison with leadership at all the local police agencies to develop plans, drills and open communications.
- Perform regular security evaluations of building facilities and school procedures and provide the Superintendent with results and recommendations from those evaluations.
- Stay current with current safety and security industry best practices as they related to schools.
- Stay current with all Illinois School Code and other legal regulations related to the supervision, planning, and implementation of safety and security procedures in school buildings.
- Visit schools on a regular basis to keep open communication with administrators, staff, students, and other stakeholders in relation to safety and security.
- Prepare and execute regular trainings for staff and students with respect to safety and security procedures, threat assessment and identification, and other industry best practices.
- Develop and disseminate emergency procedure manuals specific to each location relating to natural disasters, tornados, gas leaks, bus emergencies, lock-downs, intruders, bomb threats, and any other safety threats related to schools.
- Responsible for the hiring and supervision of all security personnel including, but not limited to, the following:
- Regular performance evaluations
- Scheduling, including for special events
- Manager and approve electronic payroll and time off requests
- Organize regular monthly trainings
- Gather and monitor all firearm certifications to insure that all security personnel are current with legal firearm requirements and trainings
- Develop and implement a Security Officer Procedure Manual
- Perform regular tabletop exercises of threat scenarios
- Recruit, interview, and vet all security officer applicants
- Manage all building key card access systems including adding and deleting staff from systems, managing lost and replacement cards, and allowable entry times.
- Manage all security camera systems including developing proper monitoring procedures for security personnel and administrators, maintenance of camera systems and identification of a critical camera blind spots.
- Enforce policies in the student handbook in collaboration with the student discipline personnel.
- Manage and implement the Raptor Visitor Management, Alert, and Reunification System.
- Insure that all critical personnel have access to two-way radio devices and that all devices are operational.
- Assist District personnel in the identification of safety and security needs throughout the buildings.
- Maintain effective records and logs of applicable occurrences, events, and activities
- Serve as the primary contact among district administration, external security and law-enforcement agencies, SRO’s, and staff for District-Wide events, crises and strategic planning.
