This I Believe

The age old question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. I still ask myself this question to this day. For me it’s not about what I want to be but what I leave with the people I encounter. Coming from a background of counseling, I have always desired to help people to become the best version of themselves that they can be. As an upcoming educator, I plan to do the same thing but in a different way. I believe that I will make a lasting impact on each child that I encounter. I believe I will make an impact on my students through social skills, life skills, engagement, and inspiration. I believe I will be the kind of teacher that can be a helpful support to the students throughout life.

As I faced the decision to change career paths a few months ago I asked myself this question, “What kind of teacher will I be?”. I know that social skills are imperative for our youth to develop properly.I believe that I will be able to help teach the children coping skills when dealing with tough situations in their lives.I want them to learn skills of  resilience by learning to persevere even when things are difficult. Learning important life skills will be impactful to my students' lives. I believe that I will teach them communication skills that they will need in life in order to be productive and successful adults. It is important for the population that I will be teaching to learn skills such as code switching and learning the importance of education. I want to impact my students in a way that they won’t be able to forget the things that they learned in my class.  I desire to be the teacher who they remember that has made an impact on their lives and because of our time together they are better versions of themselves. Inspiration is the gateway to greatness. I believe that I will be able to inspire students to do great things and become successful adults. I desire to teach my students things that will inspire them to continue to higher learning and challenge themselves to be better and accomplish more than the generations before them. I believe that I will serve my students in a positive way and push them to strive for greatness.
