Mrs. Garland
Welcome Parents and students. Mrs. Garland is your child's Language Arts and Social Studies teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. Mrs. Garland was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. She and her husband were married 25 years before he passed away. She has 28 years of experience teaching elementary school grades K-5. In addition to this, she is an experienced Assistant Principal. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education at Roosevelt University, a Master's in the Art of Teaching at Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan and a Master's in Educational Leadership. Mrs. Garland earned a certificate for her participation in the Yale Child Study School Development Leadership Program headed by Dr. James P. Comer. She served as a Judge for the Detroit Public Television Reading Rainbow Writing and Illustrator's Contest for grades K-3. Her philosophy of education grew from many years of teaching experience. Her beliefs regarding education as it relates to teaching and learning are based on creating an atmosphere for positive learning. She believes in motivating others to become excited about learning, and providing a strong foundation for her students who will become lifelong learners. In order to accomplish this, she incorporates teaching that is based on learning theories, cultural diversity, instructional planning, and assessment. Mrs. Garland enjoys teaching and is looking forward to the new school year.
