Welcome to the Fourth Grade

Dear Parents,

Greetings, my name is Mrs. Shelby Olorunyomi, and I am a new fourth grade teacher at Sauk Elementary School.  I look forward to meeting everyone very soon at Open House.  However, first, I would like to share some background about me.  Although I am new to Sauk Elementary School, I have an extensive background in teaching students in the third through fifth grade levels.

The fourth grade is a very important grade level. It is the grade level in which the students learn how to apply all the knowledge of working more independently that was previously learned in the transition grade known as the third grade. This can be an exciting time for the children, but it can be a challenging one as well because the work becomes even more rigorous. However, with the proper support from the teacher and the home, the students can succeed and thrive in fourth grade.  Also, the students will continue to build on what they learned in third grade in the various subjects such as Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

As you know, fourth grade is a testing grade. This means that there is much to do in the area of preparation.  I want all of the students to understand that we are all here to learn, so they should not be afraid to try or give the effort.  Also, I want to humbly request that the children have five folders and four notebooks.  The students will need these items to keep notes from academic work and activities organized.

I look forward to working with everyone to help our students succeed. I will be setting up my Class Dojo account soon. This will enable us to communicate about what is happening in our classroom community such as the daily homework and test dates, etc.…. I can also communicate with parents about their individual child privately through Class Dojo.

As noted earlier, I look forward to meeting everyone very soon. I believe in constant communication, so you will be receiving classroom newsletters on a regular basis, usually posted on Class Dojo. Also, my email address is Additionally, my telephone number is (708) 747-2660, ext. 7016.

Once again, I look forward to working with everyone to help the children perform at their very best to achieve success.
