Welcome to the Fourth Grade (Please Check the Class News Page for the Most Updated Information About What's Happening)

Dear Parents,

Greetings, my name is Mrs. Shelby Olorunyomi, and I am a fourth grade teacher at Sauk Elementary School.  I look forward to meeting everyone very soon for the new 2020-2021 School Year. This is a new school year during a very unprecedented situation for all of us, however, I firmly believe that if we work together, the children can progress, they can still make amazing growth, and continue to get everything they need to be successful this school year and beyond.

The fourth grade is a very important grade level. It is the grade level in which the students learn how to apply all the knowledge of working more independently that was previously learned in the transition grade known as the third grade. This can be an exciting time for the children, but it can be a challenging one as well because the work becomes even more rigorous. However, with the proper support from the teacher and the home, the students can succeed and thrive in fourth grade.  Also, the students will continue to build on what they learned in third grade in the various subjects such as Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

As you know, fourth grade is traditionally a testing grade. This means that there is much to do in the area of preparation.  I want all of the students to understand that we are all here to learn, so they should not be afraid to try or give the effort.  Also, I want to humbly request that the children have five folders and four notebooks.  The students will need these items to keep notes from academic work and activities organized. Eventhough we are engaging in "Remote Learning", it is very important that the students keep all activities and notes well organized.

As you know, we are in "Remote Learning" at this time, we will be using Google Classroom and Google Meets daily to engage in this new learning situation.  I have taken the liberty of adding all of the students on my roster to Mrs. Olorunyomi/Mrs. Hurley's (co-teacher) class on Google Classroom.

I look forward to working with everyone to help our students succeed. In addition to the Google Classroom, I will be setting up my Class Dojo account soon. This will enable us to communicate about what is happening in our classroom community. Also, I can communicate with parents about their individual child privately through Class Dojo.

I believe in constant communication, my email address is  Also, my Google Voice Number is (708) 816-4492. Homework can be sent to this number via text message or through Class Dojo.

Once again, I look forward to working with everyone to help the children perform at their very best to achieve success.
