  • Building Mathematical Connections & Relationships That Promote School Readiness

    Author

    Allen Rosales
    Description

    1.5-Hour webinar.

Young children transitioning to Kindergarten will have to understand the relationships between multiple mathematical concepts in order to solve operations, fractions, equations, and other problems. This means that preschool children have to be provided with learning experiences that go beyond math activities in isolation. They need to experience play, project and problem-based learning experiences that provide the platforms children need to engage with multiple math concepts. This webinar will present some strategies to support teachers as they plan for incorporating powerful math experiences that help build children’s mathematical connections and relationships within the classroom.

    Description

    2-Hr Webinar.

This webinar will provide you with information regarding the importance of early math skills and knowledge for young children, and an overview of the major content areas in early math. The development of strong skills associated with this broad concept is indicative of later mathematical achievement as well as later success in school. Much of what we will cover is foundational and is used in other mathematical areas.

    Author
    Cathy Main and Kathy Sheridan
    Description

    2-Hr webinar.

Upon completion of this webinar, participants should be able to:  Define patterns and identify their characteristics, explain how ordering, sequencing and patterning are connected, plan activities that involve patterns, describe the developmental trajectory of pattern comprehension in young children, plan for supporting children's developmental understanding of patterns, define geometry for young children, explain three foundational concepts about shapes, identify the components of spatial reasoning, describe the developmental levels of geometric thinking and plan for supporting geometry in the classroom.

    Description

    1.5-Hour webinar.

Mathematizing is the process of understanding the math occurring within children's daily lives; The quality of materials dictates the quality of the mathematical thinking children will process; The exploration of materials builds the logical-mathematical skills required for understanding mathematics; The investigation of math concepts within real-world applications develops the understanding of the mathematical relationships found within structures and their function; Play is an opportunity to use math language and inquiry to communicate and express one's understanding of the world around us
