Mr. William Howard, Principal
My name is Bill Howard and I am now in my seventh year at Matteson School District 162, and thrilled to be beginning another year serving as Principal of the Indiana Wildcats! I could not be more excited to be part of the team here at Indiana along with our new Assistant Principal, Ms. Mayze and a fantastic staff of dedicated teachers!
Prior to coming to Indiana as Principal during the 2019-2020 school year, I served as the Assistant Principal of Arcadia School for 2 years, and Matteson School for 3 years. Before joining Matteson SD162, I was a Dean of Students and Art Teacher at Lincoln-Way West High School. During my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, volunteering at the local animal shelter, and being outdoors.
The partnership between schools and home is essential. Please work with the teacher to keep the lines of communication open and positive. Do not hesitate to call me at any time to set up a meeting, share a concern or let us know how we can better help your child have a positive learning experience and reach success. Excellence is our Expectation at the Indiana and the key to making that a reality is our partnership with you. Together we will achieve great things in the upcoming school year!
Please come see the exciting things taking place within our school.

Ms. Carnisha Mayze, Assistant Principal
Welcome to all returning and new students of Indiana School. I am Carnisha Mayze and I am returning for my second year as your Assistant Principal. I am so excited to have all of our students physically back in our classrooms. We have been working hard all summer to plan for a safe and full opening of the school, implementing safe practices to mitigate the risks associated with Covid-19. We appreciate your partnership with practicing safety protocols such as wearing masks, frequent hand washing/sanitizing, and remaining socially distanced. We look forward to your continued support with upholding high academic and behavioral expectations and advancing our positive school culture with the implementation of our PBIS and Second Step programs.
Prior to joining the Matteson 162 team, I served as an Assistant principal in Harvey, IL. My teaching experience has included teaching students in grades 2nd through 5th in Dolton-Riverdale School District 148 and Chicago Public Schools. During my free time I like to spend time with my family, read books, and travel.
My goal as Assistant Principal is to maintain a positive learning environment and provide a rigorous and enriching school experience to advance the achievement of all students at our school. My role as a leader is not only to support teachers, but to put students at the forefront of all decisions, empower parents, and engage all other stakeholders in the success of our students. I am here to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe in the potential of every student and realize we are not just preparing them for the next grade, but for the future.
I am looking forward to another year of supporting the students, staff, and community of Indiana. I fully believe in open communication and a strong home to school connection. We are a village! Please feel free to contact me with any celebrations or concerns you may have. I look forward to meeting you and I thank you for welcoming me into this extraordinary learning community.
