Mrs. Maria E. Campos
Someone You Should Know
Hello Illinois Family!
Ms. Maria Campos is the new Spanish teacher at Illinois School. She came to the United States in 1972. Prior to her arrival, her mother came to this country in 1969 full of dreams. Her dream was to provide a better life for her four children and herself. As you are aware, the United States is known for being the country of opportunities, and her mother was determined to work for a better opportunity for her children. The first day her siblings arrived, her mother told them, "We are here to work hard and to keep working hard. We need to be honest and hard working. Nobody has to do anything for us, but we have to make sure that we do for ourselves, the right things, work, learn the American culture, respect the people, respect the country, never stop working, and make sure you are grateful to the United States."
Her mother was not an educated woman, but was very hard working and she learned that if she wanted to go anywhere in life, she needed to follow her mother's example. But, she also needed a profession. Prior to becoming a teacher, she was a jack of many trades. Mrs. Campos worked as a medical assistant, administrative support, and was even a pioneer in computers back in the day of the mainframe! However, none of these ventures satisfied her thirst for success and sense of self-realization. She had always dreamt of a professional career. It was then, that with two young children, she started college. It was not easy but she was the first in her family to obtain a bachelors degree in Spanish Educationand a masters degree in Administration and Curriculum. Mrs. Campos has taught Spanish at all grade levels and is very proud to continue to contribute to enrich the minds of our students by sharing the Spanish language, the culture and the skills for our students while expanding their horizons.
That's why she's... Someone You Should Know!
There are some important scheduling changes regarding the Extended Day Program for second semester.
